Here for the duration...

Well, I guess those 18 days of being at home were a bit tougher on me than I thought. I didn't do enough resting, or something.

Thursday we went for a routine appointment and my glucose screen and the doctor found some scary developments, so she sent us right to Labor & Delivery. We were pretty much told that we would be having babies that day, but they would do steroids shots just in case and put me back on indicin and procardia.

We had 24 very scary hours during which Tim got the visit the NICU and see our babies little isolettes and machines. We were briefed my the neonatologists, and I had lots and lots of meds. Right about 24 hours in, things started to calm down and turn around, so I am happy to say we have no babies today. (But Tim did just eat a banana.)

But the doctors don't want to risk anything, so I am likely here for the duration. We have heard estimates of time that aren't very long, but we are both being very positive and hope that I have to stay here for months. Obviously longer is better. I am just 26 weeks today. But I miss my dog and my house. Tim will have to go home to sleep during the week most likely, but luckily we have a nice room with a comfie-ish bed for him, so he can stay weekends.

I will keep you updated!

I liked the roomservice...

What a difference a day can make! So, Wednesday I went to the grocery store with Tim and just got exhausted. Worse than I have ever felt, and then I got heartburn really bad that night. Which led to not enough eating or drinking water on Thursday. By that afternoon, I was bad. We went to the doctor and luckily got some zantac, but we also learned that things weren't quite as good as we hoped they were. On the way home I started having contractions. So Friday we went back to the doctor and they sent me right to the emergency room.

It was scary. I learned awful, awful things about babies that are this young (23 weeks). I was given procardia, which didn't help, and then indicin, which stopped the contractions, but is only a 48 hour medication. I had to stay until Monday afternoon. When the medication wore off the contractions started right up again, but every agreed that they are false labor and not the real thing. So I got to come home.

I am supposed to take things really easy, but I am not on strict bed rest. I HAVE to make it at least 4 and a half more weeks to even give the babies a shot at making it. But really, 8 and a half weeks would be better. After that we will be safer.

I just need to down the water and sleep better. (which are mutually exclusive! Hard to get a full 8 + hours when I wake up to go to the bathroom all the time!)
