Multiples Class

This weekend was our multiples class at the hospital. We learned so much and met several other triplet people, so I think it was a big success. We both came away from it feeling better. Much more capable and hopeful. We also were able to tour the NICU a little bit and I have to say that was the biggest relief. I was not really looking forward to the tour, because what I have seen on TLC scared me. But this NICU is much home-ier. It has carpet and rocking chairs and looked much more welcoming. I still don’t want our babies there, but I will be much more comfortable if it comes to that.

The worst part of the class was a video of a completely natural twin birth. That lady was tough. I mean beyond tough. Like army rangers and navy seals would look like little crybabies next to her. I am glad that triplets have scheduled c-sections. With lots of drugs and professional care.

We now have a lot better idea of the actual stuff we need and the stuff we don’t need. The teacher and the other older moms were very clear about not needing three of everything. Like, you don’t need three swings and bouncy seats and stuff. Just cribs and car seats and things like that. So that was a big relief. The thought of buying three swings, bouncy seats, pack-and-plays, exersaucers, etc… was a little daunting.

The best part of the whole weekend was after the class when Starbucks accidentally gave me a regular Americano instead of decaf. I haven’t felt that good in months. I went off caffeine in July and haven’t even had chocolate since August, so this was the first jolt I have had in a long time. It rocked. We were able to visit my parents, grocery shop, hang out at home, cook appetizers and dinner, watch a movie and just be together and laugh. We haven’t had that nice an afternoon in a looong time. It really gives me hope for when I hit the second trimester.

In bump news, I am totally unable to hide my tummy! This weekend was really the first time it was obvious that I was pregnant and not just bloaty. I still think I was the smallest in the class, but I was a week behind the other closest person and she had already had one baby, so she was bigger. I still can’t even fathom how big I will be with three babies. They are still only two and a half inches at this point, so they have a long way to go. I was telling Tim last night that I can begin to see how putting on socks will become physically impossible at some point. I hope my Uggs clogs still fit by then.

First Snow!

This morning we all woke up to snow! The first of the season, AND the first in our new home. I had been looking forward to this for several weeks. Maddie, on the other hand, wasn't very interested in going outside this morning. But I love it! Very pretty.

This week has been very up and down with the morning sickness. Mostly good, but it is still hanging around. I really hope that the official second trimester (two weeks from tomorrow) is a big change that brings lots of energy and hunger.

This weekend we are taking a multiples class at the hospital where I will deliver. They don't offer it very often, and by the next cycle I might not be able to go! Isn't that crazy!?! The teacher has triplets herself, so I hope it will be very educational. We will let you know.

11 Week Ultrasound

Yesterday Tim and I met with our perinatalogist for the first time and got more pictures taken. We were given lots of information that I am still sorting through in my mind. The Dr was very nice and helpful, so that's good.

I think the nausea and tiredness is easing up a bit, so keep your fingers crossed.
Baby A is the lowest and Baby C is the highest. Baby B is the danciest. Babies A and B are the twins. Everything is looking very good and all the babies are growing at similar rates. We will likely be able to learn the sex of each baby in late December!

Sample Menu

My biggest question about this whole triplet thing is how am I ever going to be able to eat enough? I haven't felt well enough 95% of the time yet to eat very normally, let alone the recommended 4,000 calories a day I need. Luckily, yesterday I started getting hungry, so maybe the tide is shifting and I will be an eating machine soon.

Here is a sample menu from my triplet book of what an average day should look like:

BREAKFAST -
2 eggs
1 oz. Canadian bacon
3 slices whole wheat toast
1.5 oz. Cheddar cheese
1 banana

MID MORNING SNACK -
2 slices whole wheat toast
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1 oz. cheese
1 apple
1.5 cups of milk

LUNCH -
2 oz. tuna
1/2 oz. Swiss cheese
2 slices toasted rye bread
1 lettuce and tomato salad
1/2 cup potato salad
1 cup ice cream
1.5 cups of milk
1 orange

MID AFTERNOON SNACK -
8 Ritz crackers
1 oz. liver pate
1/2 cup grapes

DINNER -
5 oz. steak
1 baked potato
2 tablespoons sour cream
1 Caesar salad
1 dinner roll
1 cup milk
1 cup tapioca pudding
1/2 cup strawberries

AFTER DINNER -
1 cup ice cream

BEDTIME SNACK -
3/4 cup cereal
1 cup milk
1/2 cup fruit.

So, if you need me over the next several months, I will be eating or napping. Personally, I think this even puts the "Me So Hungry" platter to shame.
